When you re done wiping your roller shades leave them lowered to air dry. If you have vinyl roller shades wipe them down with warm soapy water for cleaning. Be sure to use a clean microfiber cloth and mild dish soap. Start at the bottom.

Open it and lay out on a clean flat surface. Dunk the sponge into the cleaning solution periodically for steady and effective cleaning. Now that you have prepared your materials and removed any loose dirt and dust from your fabric blinds you can finish cleaning them off. Do not use water on wood blinds.

Blot the affected area until the stain is gone then blot dry with another clean cloth. To clean fingerprints or soiled spots use an aerosol spray foam upholstery or fabric cleaners such as woolite or scotchgard. Do not scrub the fabric as this can cause pilling or damage. Before spot cleaning any colored fabric shade test a small area that cannot be seen with the mild soap detergent for smaller spots.

Carefully remove them unstring them if need be and vacuum them well. If you ve let your blinds or shades accumulate dirt or if spot cleaning just isn t getting the job done it s time to give your blinds or shades a bath. If the blinds are plastic or metal and you want to leave them in place to clean them make a 50 50 solution of warm water and white vinegar in a bowl or bucket. If dusting hasn t helped stains blotted clean with a damp cloth warm water and a mild detergent like dish soap.

If the fabric shade is a vertical blind use a damp sponge in between the slats and clean the areas missed by the vacuum. Get your sponge out of the soapy water and use it to lightly wipe the affected areas. Then fill your clean bathtub with warm soapy water and place them inside. Gently vacuum first on one side and then the other following the pleat.

Soap will easily dissolve all that needs to be cleaned in the blinds and you ll see the fabric get cleaner with each stroke of the sponge. To clean classic vinyl roller shades use a well wrung cloth or sponge dipped in a solution of mild dishwashing detergent and lukewarm water and wipe the shade in sections. Mix in a little mild dishwashing soap. Pleated shades remove the shade from its window.

Whether you have traditional draperies and top treatments or are more progressive with the newer styles of window shadings such as those from hunter douglas and others your local cfs member can clean it. Never submerge shades in water or get them overly wet. To clean them start by dusting them with a microfiber cloth.
